At Pitt, we are always searching for creative solutions to improve efficiency and incorporate sustainability. This was the attitude of Facilities Management staff when they proposed to expand the capabilities of the Energy Management Operations Center for the Pittsburgh campus in 2020. Once implemented, the project quickly elevated the ability of staff to monitor and regulate utilities across campus. Clockworks Analytics—creators of the automated building analytics utilized in the Energy Center— has recognized Pitt for “Most Tasks completed Annually” at the software company’s client summit.
Pitt’s Energy Center is a central hub that connects to over 900,000 control and monitoring points across 2.5 million square feet of space on the Pittsburgh campus. Staff are able to continuously analyze utilities usage, make adjustments to further strengthen efficiency, and identify potential issues 24/7—supporting the University’s sustainability and facilities management goals.
Pitt was also inducted into Clockwork Analytics “Million Dollar Club,” a designation highlighting the money saved in future energy costs through the use of fault detection and diagnostics programing.
Through their ingenuity and dedication, the Energy Center and its staff are well equipped to handle the new additions to the campus infrastructure—including the new chilled water plant and the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
