Carolyn Verga joins the newly formed Office of Planning, Design and Construction as the new Assistant Vice Chancellor for Campus Planning in January of 2023. She comes to Pitt after serving as the Director of Facility Planning for The Ohio State University.
Verga will provide strategic coordination and administrative oversight for campus planning and development. Her insight will be crucial in the development of long-range strategies to ensure the current and future needs of the University are being met. This role will also require close relationships and communication with various community stakeholders, including the Commonwealth, the City of Pittsburgh, Department of Labor and Industry, in addition to community engagement.
During her tenure at The Ohio State University, Verga was responsible for over 900 facilities on main campus and 4 regional campuses. As the Director of Facility Planning, she utilized her 20+ years of experience to ensure the progression of master plans ranging from university-wide to school-specific master plans, in addition to managing mixed-use developments requiring collaboration with campus partners.
Verga recently served as the vice president of the Higher Education Facility Managers Alliance (HEFMA), a Big Ten association of space and facility planners. In addition, she is a member of the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP).
