Thurman Wingrove serves as controller with responsibilities for all financial reporting and accounting activities for the University, as well as the coordination of the annual operating budget and management of the student financial services department.
He most recently was interim chief financial officer, overseeing all financial resources for the University—including general, student, cost and sponsored projects accounting, budget, financial reporting, treasury , payroll, risk management, tax, and investments, including the Consolidated Endowment Fund. He also partnered with University leadership on strategic initiatives and planning.
Prior to his role as controller, Thurman served as associate vice chancellor for Financial Information, and as interim chief financial officer in 2018. When he first came to Pitt in 1990, Thurman served as the assistant manager of general accounting and later as director of financial reporting. In these roles, he managed internal and external financial reporting and the University's central accounting activities. He began his career in public accounting at Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) as an auditor.
Thurman holds an MBA from the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and earned his accounting degree from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. He is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and serves as the assistant treasurer/secretary of the MPC Corporation, a joint research venture between the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. He has served as an adjunct professor of accounting at Saint Vincent College where he was also on the Board of Visitors for the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government.
